Symposium 2010 – Young Audiences

For most concert halls, youths and young people are rather unknown fi elds. At this stage of life, the image of classical music is not less favourable than in other age groups, but when it comes to free time activities, youths and young adults rather do not consider going to a classical concert.

Why is this so? The symposium will try to get wise to the world of this target group. How should we best appeal to young people? Should the concert halls adapt their programmes to them and hire cool DJs? Are the conventional music education programmes around the well-known masterpieces of program music the right way at all? Or is it no longer worth claiming that the concert format could be an experience also attractive to young people?
